PLEASE NOTE: The College Office will close from 4:00pm Friday 13 December
and reopen at 8:00am Monday 13 January 2020.
We wish all our College community have a blessed, safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
Mr Andrew Whiteman
2019 – the year of One College, I can safely say that there will never be another year quite like it. So much has changed since that first day back in Term 1 where an excited and nervous cohort of students arrived on the doorstep of Surrey Farm Drive. It was a beautiful sight to see older students walking with younger siblings into their new classrooms. The Junior School students could not wait and ran into their classrooms and play spaces. Despite the fact not all our new buildings were ready there was so much excitement in the campus it didn’t seem to matter.
I can’t say that those first few weeks were easy, they certainly had their challenges, but what I do know is that despite all the changes and hiccups along the way, one thing was constant. It was, the 亚洲无码 community and the students, having an appetite for learning, and what didn’t change was their character. Our resilience through this time of change, our ability to get on with life, our ability to warmly welcome all of the new students to the campus and our willingness of students and families to, once again, go out of their way to make things work when they were different was outstanding and we should all be proud of what has occurred this year.
There is no doubt that the character of 亚洲无码 has been strengthened by the move to One College. For that I thank you, the students, staff and families of 亚洲无码 for building that legacy at 亚洲无码 in 2019. Your ability to focus on the positives and build on our great reputation is something that I will remember and should live long in our memories.
I would like to thank Mr Mike Millard our former Principal for leading the College into this new era; his vision and drive helped bring 亚洲无码 and One College One Campus to where it is today. He is extremely proud about what has occurred in 2019 and he has left 亚洲无码 in a very good position, poised to continue providing outstanding education to all students as well as producing graduates with exceptional character.
I think the following quote from the famous Archbishop Oscar Romero relates very well to where 亚洲无码 is at this current moment:
鈥淲e plant the seeds that will one day grow,
We water the seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise
We lay foundations that will need further development
We provide yeast that produces effects far beyond our own capabilities.鈥
I believe that this is what 亚洲无码 does, we lay excellent foundations for our students to flourish. Our staff challenge our students, knowing that by challenging them, they will shine. We give our students the ingredients to be successful and it is up to each individual student to now take on that responsibility and let their light shine.
To the graduating class of 2019, we are immensely proud of your efforts this year to come together as one cohort and finish the year so strongly. The people that you have become today are the people who we are excited to claim as 亚洲无码 graduates. Our Year 12 cohort had an overwhelmingly positive attitude from day one and, as you travel through school and life, you slowly realise that your attitude has an impact on your life. Attitude is more important than facts, more important than the past, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, more important than what other people think or say or do.
There are many highlights of 2019, but I think the One College Colour Explosion was a standout. The camaraderie shown by all our students to look after the younger members of the school was a sight to see with the day the very first real opportunity for the entire community to come together and have fun. Our fabulous Parents and Friends association created, advertised and really drove this event and we thank them for their hard work, raising a significant amount of money that has been donated for improvements around the College. I encourage any parents who are able to donate as little as a few hours a term to help build on the strong work of our current P & F.
I would like to thank Mrs Tanya Warne, our past President of the P & F for her contributions over many years on the committee. Tanya was awarded the Wright Volunteer Service Award at this week鈥檚 Senior School Thanksgiving service in recognition of her generous support to 亚洲无码 in this role.
I would also like to thank the 亚洲无码 College Board Members for their ongoing commitment and support of the College. Under the direction of Board Chair, Ms Katey Elding, members have guided the One College project听through to completion and they are aware of what needs to be done in the years ahead to solidify a strong financial position. The 亚洲无码 Board saw an opportunity and, despite the risks involved, were able to plan and execute what was a very ambitious project bringing two schools onto one campus. 亚洲无码 is in the fortunate position of having a strong Board and I thank them for their guidance and unwavering support of our staff and families at 亚洲无码.
A big thank you to all 亚洲无码 staff for their hard work and commitment over the course of the year. 亚洲无码 is a special place and has a caring and innovative staff that go a long way to making this happen. It has been very enjoyable to see some links being forged between Junior, Middle and Senior School staff. The ideas that flow and the spin-off is that the students get to experience just exactly what happens in the different year levels and classrooms across our three sub schools. Our immensely positive staff have lived with the challenges of 2019 and their skills and hard work have not gone unnoticed.
This year, we are farewelling a number of staff from the College, from the Junior School; Tania Crawford, Jay Callaghan and Madelene Ireland, from Middle School, Josh Colbourne and from Learning Support. Gill Brown and Sue Sibly. We thank all of these for their service to the College and wish them well for the future.
Congratulations to all the award winners who were presented at the various awards ceremonies that were held in the past two weeks. We hope that all students continue to strive for excellence in all that they do.
A Brief Word on Next Year
Throughout this year plans have been put in place to make 2020 an even better year than this one. Recently you have received information about SEQTA Engage and we are excited about the positive influence this can have across the entire College. We are looking forward to welcoming Mr James Tamblyn as our new Principal in 2020 who will begin a new era at 亚洲无码. There will be an opportunity for families to meet with James early in the year as he settles into the College.
In this week鈥檚 Vine you will not see information from the three Heads of School as they have sent out their final messages this week at the time of report distribution. As my final thank you for the year I would like to thank the College Leadership team for their support and dedication to the College. Their drive to see 亚洲无码 as an educational leader in Adelaide is unwavering and we are all excited about the journey we are just beginning.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.

It was a lovely evening for our Junior Primary Nativity Musical on Wednesday 4 December. Our Reception Ready to Year 2 students were very excited leading up to the evening and rehearsals went very smoothly.听The ability to have more time on stage and not have to bus over to the Chapel for rehearsals was great! Last year we had a few staging issues due to not knowing how big the stage was until the performance day.听Being on the one campus this year, meant we could check all of these details sooner, leading to a smoother process for our students and staff. It also meant a lot less time was spent out of class preparing, as we didn鈥檛 need to travel between campuses.
Our Year 2 students were great at following instructions and made the musical flow smoothly, setting a mature example for the younger classes.听It was a colourful night, as the angels travelled to 6 countries, bringing back children from each country to teach us about their Christmas customs.听This theme tied in well with our PYP Global focus, with many of our classes having a unit of Inquiry for this term focusing on Celebrations across the world.听We hope the audience enjoyed learning about the different customs, as the students certainly enjoyed presenting the information and songs to everyone. We also learnt how to say Merry Christmas in several different languages: 鈥淪heng dan kuai le!鈥

Junior School Thanksgiving
For the first time, on Friday 29 November, the Junior School held their Thanksgiving Service in the College Chapel since we became One Campus. It was a wonderful night beginning with a video of our current Year 5s which included photos of their schooling so far at 亚洲无码. After the traditional ‘Lighting of the Candle’ by Junior School Captains, Keeley Devink and Oscar Elding and reflections of the school year by the 2019 Community Captains,听the Year 5s were presented to an audience of staff, family and friends before they embark on their next journey into Middle School in 2020. This was followed by the听induction of the new 2020 Captains.听The choir and string ensemble musical performances were also a joy to listen to throughout the evening.
Middle School Thanksgiving
On Thursday 5 December, the Middle School held their very entertaining Thanksgiving Service. This is always a fun and vibrant service, and this year was no different, with the听talents of each year level from Year 6 – 9 shining through, as they enjoyed their time on stage singing and dancing. The entertainment included medleys of songs from the 90s, a lively presentation of “We’re all in this Together”, Parodies and quiz, and a wonderful rendition of “Here comes the sun”.
Congratulations to all students who were recipients of an Academic Achievement award presented during the afternoon. Special congratulations also go to the Dux from each year level, Keziah Chung, Year 6, Grace Collins, Year 7, Inseo Yoon, Year 8, and Jenna Robertson, Year 9 and also to the Special Award recipients.

Senior School Thanksgiving
Year 12s were farewelled at a wonderful Thanksgiving Service held on Tuesday 3 December in the College Chapel. Masters of Ceremony, the 2020 College Captains Cooper Schahinger and Maya Smale were outstanding as they presented to the invited guests, staff, family and friends throughout the evening.
2019 College Captains, Brooke Carrigan and Connor Pullinger reviewed their school year before the Year 10 and Year 11 Academic Awards were handed to students. Congratulations to Maya Smale, Year 11 and Mia Furlan, Year 10 on becoming the Dux of their year. This was followed by the Year 12s gathering on stage in their communities to be presented to the audience before the Special Awards were announced and awarded to students.听Once again the incredible talent of our music students shone with their performances on the night.
The finale of the night was the Year 12s being led by the piper from the Chapel for the last time, whilst being given a huge听round of applause.

Support of our College charity Anglicare SA is most appreciated.
The graduating Class of 2019 enjoyed a wonderful night of fun and friendship at their Formal at Sfera鈥檚 Park Suites and Convention Centre on Wednesday 27 November. The students looked stunning in their outfits as they shared the first hour with their family and friends before joining staff in the Starlight Room for dinner. Throughout the evening there was laughter, reminiscing of their schooling at 亚洲无码, lots of photos, lots of hugs and plenty of time on the dance floor.
Connor Pullinger, 2019 Valedictorian, gave a heartfelt speech expressing gratitude for the time spent at 亚洲无码 and Mrs Ingrid Moodley spoke on behalf of the staff, on the importance of finding ways to happiness using your Heart, Hands and Head.
A fitting end to Year 12s as they embark on the next stage of their lives.
